Love and Hate

Nov 30, 2025    Scot Pollok

This message from Pastor Scot confronts us with two profound realities: the call to sacrificial love within the church and the certainty of the world's hatred toward followers of Christ. We're challenged to examine our love not through grand gestures of martyrdom, but through daily acts of sacrifice—giving up our preferences, opinions, timing, and sense of fairness for others. The text reveals that greater love means laying down our lives, which most often translates to laying down our way of doing things. This kind of love becomes our training ground for spiritual maturity, strengthening like an immune system that grows through testing. Meanwhile, Jesus prepares us for a sobering truth: the world system, currently under the influence of the deceiver, will hate us precisely because it hated Him first. Yet embedded in this warning is beautiful hope—just as some believed in Jesus and kept His word, they will believe in us too. We're called to be warriors in a garden rather than gardeners in a war, equipped with spiritual armor to discern the enemy's primary strategy: counterfeiting truth with subtle lies that look almost identical to the real thing. By knowing the authentic Jesus intimately through Scripture, we can recognize these counterfeits and navigate the friction of this world with grace, truth, and uncompromising love.
